Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has faced significant backlash following the “disrespectful” firing of Caen head coach Nicolas Seube.
Mbappe, a former Paris Saint-Germain forward, completed an takeover of Caen on July 31, shortly after his free transfer to Real Madrid. Through his company Interconnected Ventures, he acquired a majority stake in the Ligue 2 club via its investment arm, Coalition Capital, reportedly investing €15 million (£12m/$16) of his own funds.
Unfortunately, his investment has not translated into immediate success on the field, as Caen has dropped to 16th place in the Ligue 2 standings midway through the 2024-25 season. Seube faced the consequences of the team’s performance, as the club announced his dismissal on Sunday, stating in an official release: “After a year leading the professional team, Stade Malherbe Caen has decided to end its collaboration with Nicolas Seube.”
