The Memphis Grizzlies have gone 4-0 since Ja Morant’s return, with the star earning the Western Conference Player of the Week honor after serving a 25-game suspension. However, his celebration following a dunk on Tuesday has drawn criticism from some observers.
With just 14 seconds left in overtime and the Grizzlies leading the Pelicans by four points, Marcus Smart threw an alley-oop to Morant. After landing, the 24-year-old raised both hands before extending his arms, a gesture that some interpreted as mimicking finger, which he then directed towards the side of his head.
Morant shared a video on X that featured clips of LSU football players performing similar dances to celebrate touchdowns, leading some users to speculate that he adopted the move due to the Grizzlies playing in New Orleans.
