Amad Diallo’s hat-trick that shook Old Trafford

Amad scores hat-trick, MU turns the tables in the 90th minute

After the away draw with Liverpool and the win over Arsenal with 10 men at the Emirates, MU fans expected coach Ruben Amorim and his team to have a resounding victory at home against bottom team Southampton.

However, what the “Red Devils” showed in the first half could be summed up in the word “disappointing”. MU let Southampton take the initiative, even creating a number of outstanding opportunities. If it weren’t for the talent of Andre Onana, the home team’s net would have shaken after Dibling and Mateus Fernandes’ shots.

After a series of missed opportunities, Southampton scored the opening goal in the 43rd minute. Home fans were disappointed to see Onana concede another goal from a corner kick. Dibling ran across, headed the ball back, hitting Ugarte, and changing direction into the net.

After conceding the goal, MU had a series of chances to equalize but Alejandro Garnacho and Antony both missed in front of an open goal. The home team had to wait until the 82nd minute to break through Southampton’s net.

Amad Diallo dribbled with determination in a row of defenders, before unleashing a powerful shot from close range, bringing the match back to the starting line.

The equalizer helped the home team’s spirit rise. In the 83rd minute, Christian Eriksen was brought on. Just 7 minutes later, the Danish veteran made his mark with an accurate pass, creating conditions for Amad to lean forward and finish from close range, putting MU ahead 2-1.

Not stopping there, Amad also completed his hat-trick in the 90+4th minute. The former Atalanta player stole the ball right from the feet of the away team’s defender, before finishing into an empty net, completing his first hat-trick in a MU shirt.
