The Real Madrid players and staff were delighted to see David Alaba make his return to the pitch

Alaba finally returns to Real Madrid squad

The Austrian defender will be back just when the Real Madrid defence needs him most after some inconsistent performances of late.

David Alaba could be back in Real Madrid’s squad a year after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the Austrian took part in training on Friday and could be available for tonight’s La Liga with Las Palmas (10.15pm). Speaking to reporters in his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti said:

“Alaba, he’s fine. He trained for 40 minutes yesterday and he’s feeling good. Obviously he’s still finding his rhythm but fortunately there’s nothing wrong with his knee. David won’t start tomorrow but could get some minutes.”

Alaba has not played since injuring his left knee in December 2023 in a La Liga win over Villarreal. In May 2024, he underwent arthroscopic surgery, a procedure to diagnose and treat joint problems.
