In that match, Liverpool triumphed thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo, while Mbappé lamented missing a penalty saved by Caoimhín Kelleher. His continued with another missed spot in a subsequent 2-1 defeat to Bilbao.

Kylian Mbappe has revealed the moment he realised he hit rock bottom at Real Madrid, after missing back-to-back penalties against Liverpool and Athletic Bilbao last year

Despite scoring seven goals in his last ten matches, Mbappé regards this as his low moment at the Bernabéu and reflected on how he managed to recover. Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, he explained, “What I experienced was. In Bilbao, I realized that I couldn’t perform any worse. That’s when I told myself, ‘Come on, you didn’t come to Madrid to play poorly.'”

Regarding his challenging start, he noted, “It wasn’t shyness. You have to approach Real Madrid with humility because it’s a team that has won everything. You can’t come in with demands, saying ‘pass me the ball.’ No. You come with the utmost respect… and a willingness to work.”

He also expressed that he was unfazed by the immense pressure of playing for Madrid, especially after scoring two goals in their recent 4-1 victory over Las Palmas, taking responsibility for his earlier struggles.
