Real Madrid is strong with the trio of Mbappé, Vinícius, and Rodrygo

Mbappé has bounced back from a difficult spell at San Mamés on 4 January, while Rodrygo is in top form after overcoming two early-season muscle injuries that left him feeling a little down. Vinícius Junior, meanwhile, has missed two games through suspension, against Sevilla and Las Palmas, and has had his least goal contribution since 13 December.

In total, the trio have amassed 19 goals: Rodrygo eight, Mbappé seven and Vinícius four, leading the way in recent weeks in the top flight. The other trio in the race are Newcastle’s Isak , Gordon and Murphy, who have a combined 18 goals.

However, in terms of individual contributions throughout the season, FC Barcelona are leading the way, with Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Dani Olmo among the best performers. Real Madrid, despite finishing fifth overall, have increased their output of late, with Vinícius and Mbappé both scoring 15 goals and Rodrygo eight.

While fifth in the overall standings for the season, they are top in terms of goals scored in the last 40 days, suggesting that, despite player and coach talk of needing to “adapt” following Mbappé’s arrival, they have now found their rhythm.

Each game is a testament to their growing understanding; Mbappé has made 111 passes to Vinícius, while the Brazilian has responded with 113. They are the pair who look for each other most often on the pitch.

The cohesion on the pitch has translated into a higher scoring output, with 36 goals in ten games. However, the heavy defeat to Barcelona a clear mark on their record. Even with a star-studded of Mbappé, Vinícius and Rodrygo, there was a lack of balance in defence, leaving a sense of unease after the game. They will be looking to make amends when they meet again on February 8, which marks a crucial date in Real Madrid’s fixture list.
