Virgil van Dijk was lucky not to be sent off after a collision with Richarlison in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Tottenham in the EFL Cup semi-final.

Liverpool captain escapes red cardThe incident happened in the first minutes of the match when Van Dijk elbowed Richarlison under the chin, causing the Tottenham striker to fall and hold his face in pain. However, referee Craig Pawson and VAR determined that there was no serious foul and did not issue a card to the Liverpool centre-back.

 

 

Commenting on ITV, expert Ally McCoist said that Van Dijk avoided a red card because the collision was not directly to Richarlison’s face.
