Touched by Marcelo’s farewell moments with Real Madrid

The Madrid icon made a total of 546 appearances, becoming the third foreign player to make the most appearances for the club, behind Karim Benzema and Roberto Carlos.

A young and inexperienced Marcelo joined the Spanish club from Fluminense in 2006, having previously played just 30 senior games. However, he quickly established himself as a regular starter following Roberto Carlos’ move to Fenerbahce in 2007.

One of his most memorable goals included a thunderbolt against Atletico Madrid in the 2013-14 Champions League final in Lisbon, helping Los Blancos lift their 10th European Cup.

However, Marcelo’s time as a regular starter came to an end when Ferland Mendy arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2019, who was seen as a more reliable option for Los Blancos’ defence.
