Mbappe scored the equaliser in Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid. Los Merengues were 1-0 down after Julian Alvarez’s penalty in the 35th minute. However, at the start of the second half, Kylian was in the right place and at the right time to pounce on a rebound inside the box. He fired his side back into the game with a pinpoint right-footed strike.
With that goal, the Frenchman added another notable achievement to his growing list: in his first season at Real, he has scored against both of Real Madrid’s main Spanish rivals – Barcelona and Atletico Madrid – and has also found the net in both of the finals the team have played so far this season.
Mbappe has played a key role in Real Madrid’s first title this season, scoring in the 2-0 win over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup. He also scored in the 2-5 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final earlier this January.
Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, aged 24, a little younger than Mbappe is now. However, in his first season, CR7 failed to score in either derby against Atletico Madrid. Against Barcelona, he missed one match due to an ankle injury and failed to score in the other.
In addition, that season saw Real Madrid exit early in both the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey, meaning Ronaldo did not feature in any finals in his first campaign with the club.
