In the eighth minute of added time in the second half, despite the referee announcing only five minutes of added time, Vitaliy Mykolenko crossed the ball from the left wing into Liverpool’s penalty area.
The ball bounced off the ground, making it impossible for the visitors to control. Tim Iroegbunam headed it back for James Tarkowski to volley it into the top of Alisson’s net.
At 97 minutes and 7 seconds, this was Liverpool’s second late goal conceded in the Premier League since the 2006-2007 season, after Robin van Persie’s goal for Arsenal in April 2011 (97 minutes and 10 seconds).
After scoring, Tarkowski slid down the grass to celebrate at the corner flag. Almost all Everton players ran out to celebrate, while the home fans burst into joy, some even spilling onto the pitch.
