When he introduced a new rule at Anfield, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk revealed that he was inspired by his time at Celtic.

After being appointed Liverpool captain earlier this year, following James Milner’s move to Brighton and Jordan Henderson’s transfer to Al-Ettifaq, the 32-year-old defender implemented a new team policy.

“This club has had some incredible captains over the years, leaders who consistently brought out the best in themselves and their teammates,” he said about his selection.

“It’s certainly not what I imagined when I started my career to be mentioned alongside such greats.

“But what matters most to me is that I’m part of a team of leaders, each taking responsibility, regardless of who wears the armband.”

Van Dijk went on to explain that he mandated a new rule as soon as he became captain.

Now, all Liverpool players must gather on the pitch for a team huddle before every match.

According to Van Dijk, this practice helps create a positive atmosphere between the team and the fans.

He stated, as reported by The Echo: “We used to do this when I played at Celtic.

I always loved it because it set the tone for the game and let the fans know we were ready to play.”
