Jay-Z Reveals He Only Learned to Swim After Blu Ivy Was Born So He Could Save Her in an Emergency: ‘I Can’t Even Imagine That’🏊

According to Jay-Z, he started swimming to protect his first child, Blue Ivy, after she was born.

The statement was made by the 51-year-old rap legend during the new season premiere of LeBron James’ chat show The Shop on HBO.

The wordsmith claims that meeting his new daughter began with him learning to swim.

It’s incredible. It’s incredibly grounded. He admitted, “I didn’t learn to swim until Blue was born.” “Everything you need to know is there.” Our relationship is metaphorically represented by this.

The rapper from Dirt Off Your Shoulder was addressing the anxiety that all new parents experience when they think their child might suffer a horrible fate.

Prepared: 'If she ever fell in the water and I couldn't get her, I couldn't even fathom that thought,' he continued. 'I gotta learn how to swim. That's it'; seen with Blue Ivy in March 2020

“I couldn’t even imagine that thought if she ever fell in the water and I couldn’t get her,” he added. “I need to get proficient in swimming.” That’s all. That was how our romance started.

In January 2012, Beyoncé, Jay-Z’s wife, gave birth to their first child, Blue.

The former member of Destiny’s Child flaunt off her belly to the audience during a performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, revealing that she was pregnant.

After winning a Grammy Award for the song’s music video, Jay-Z’s eldest child is already on track to pursue a career in music, if she so chooses.

She was also the youngest winner to date, having received a BET award for the tune at the age of eight.

In the summer of 2017, Jay-Z and Beyoncé welcomed their fraternal twins, Sir and Rumi, who are now three years old.

During his talk show visit, Jay also shared a humorous story regarding Blue’s disinterest in his February candidacy to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

“This ain’t no celebration,” he grumbled in jest when he heard the news of the nomination while driving Blue to school.

She turned to go. “Yo, kiss me, I’m in the Hall of Fame!” I said. Her words are “Bye, dad.”

Having a laugh: Jay also joked that Blue wasn't excited at all when he was nominated for the Rock& Roll Hall of Fame in February. 'She's like, "Bye, dad,"' he joked; still from The Shop

As the Big Pimpin’ rapper (real name Shawn Carter) recalled his late companion DMX, the conversation with LeBron also took a more solemn turn.

Jay boycotted the Grammys in support of DMX, who passed away on April 9 from a heart attack that was allegedly caused by a drug overdose, after DMX’s first two #1 albums failed to garner any nominations.

The late rapper’s 1998 albums It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot and Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood were well-received by both fans and reviewers.

For a pal: 'The first time I boycotted the Grammys was for him,' Jay-Z said. He skipped the 1999 ceremony after DMX's two #1 albums were shut out; seen in 2013 in Detroit, Michigan

“I boycotted the Grammys for him the first time,” Jay-Z remarked. “That year, we both came up.” He received no nominations. In the same year, he released two albums and had two number-one albums. He was not even nominated by them.

Despite being eligible for his own nominations, he chose to abstain from the ceremony in support of his friend.

“I won for my rap album that year.” He clarified, “I boycotted with him, so I wasn’t even in the building when I got my first Grammy win.” “There was competition, but it was a lot of love.”

Despite their continued friendship, he joked that DMX was always attempting to outdo him.

“Not even my older brother has ever been more competitive with me.”
