The cost of having two children in diapers became evident to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Mariah Riddlesprigger as soon as their second child was born in August.
Riddlesprigger remarked, “Giannis and I are fortunate to be in a position where we can afford them.” “But not everybody can.”
From November 14 to 21, they will be doing a diaper drive called Maverick’s Diaper Mission to honor the birth of Maverick Shai Antetokounmpo and support underprivileged families in the Milwaukee area. It is a partnership between the Milwaukee Bucks, the premium baby brand Nuna, and the Milwaukee Diaper Mission.
“We’re thinking about always giving back ’cause I’m blessed to be a part of this family and this is something very, very special for me and Mariah,” Antetokounmpo stated.
How the diaper drive came aboutWhat Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger do for one of their children, they want to do for the other, Riddlesprigger said.
Their son Liam was born in the winter of 2020, and relatives and friends threw two lavish baby showers for him. So when Maverick was on the way, they wanted to do something special for him, too.
However, they chose to wait until after Maverick’s birth because to the Bucks’ championship run into July and Riddlesprigger’s advanced pregnancy.
After coming up with the diaper drive concept, Riddlesprigger contacted the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, a basic needs bank that seeks to give local families in need a dependable source of period products and diapers. The organization was co-founded in September 2020 by Meagan Johnson and her cousin, Jessica Syburg. “It’s a dream come true, not just because of their platform and their importance in the city, but just because of their kind hearts and the people that they are,” Johnson said.
