Cristian Romero is reportedly upset with Tottenham’s medical staff over their management of his recent injury, choosing instead to express gratitude towards the physios of the Argentina national team for aiding his recovery.
After suffering a quadricep injury during a match against Chelsea in early December, Romero found himself sidelined for nearly three months before making his return in a Premier League match against Bournemouth.
His absence, paired with the injury to centre-back partner Micky van de Ven, created a significant gap in Tottenham’s defense, forcing players like Radu Dragusin, Archie Gray, Ben Davies, and January signing Kevin Danso to step up.
Fortunately, Romero has now participated in Tottenham’s last three matches, demonstrating his fitness for international play as he played the full 90 minutes in Argentina’s 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Uruguay.
Journalist Eduardo Burgos recently highlighted Romero’s dissatisfaction with Tottenham’s handling of his rehabilitation on social media, noting that the centre-back expressed his appreciation for the Argentina medical team instead of his own club’s staff.
Burgos reported that Romero felt “deeply upset” about how his recovery was managed, leading him to miss 21 games before returning to the pitch.
This isn’t the first time the 26-year-old has publicly criticized Tottenham’s medical team. After his return against Bournemouth, Romero shared a social media post that caught the attention of many disgruntled Spurs fans. In a clear jab at the club’s physios, he stated: “Thankful to the physios at Argentina for getting me out of a bad moment and putting me back on the field where I am so happy. Thank you all for your continued support.”

As discussions about his future intensify, this situation only fuels speculation regarding Romero’s potential exit from the club.
Romero has garnered interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, especially after his impressive performances during Argentina’s World Cup victory in Qatar, with Carlo Ancelotti being a notable admirer of his skills.
According to recent reports from GiveMeSport, Romero is hesitant about signing a contract extension at Hotspur Way. Key figures at Tottenham may soon present the defender with an ultimatum: agree to a new deal before the summer transfer window opens or face a sale.
Real Madrid’s interest is driven by their desire to rejuvenate their defensive lineup, particularly with David Alaba and Eder Militao experiencing long-term injuries.
If Tottenham does decide to sell, they are likely to demand a fee around £60 million (€71m / $78m) for Romero, considering his role as vice-captain and the fact that his current contract is valid until the summer of 2027.
