During their visit to the Acropolis of Athens this weekend, Nigerian-Greek NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo posed for a picture with his two sons, just a few days before his biopic is set to be released internationally.
The all-time top scorer for the Milwaukee Bucks is having a great time on vacation in Greece after his team’s playoff season ended early due to a loss to the Boston Celtics in game seven.
He said, “Our annual Akropolis visit,” as the caption for his Instagram picture of father and son. His youngest boy will celebrate his first birthday in August, while his oldest son is currently two years old.
Giannis purchased two Costa Navarino Residences in the Peloponnese, where the family will spend their Greek vacation.
The Antetokounmpo movie will be out in June.Later this month, on June 24, 2022, Rise, the biographical sports-drama film from Walt Disney Studios that is based on the ascent of the Antetokounmpo siblings, will be made available exclusively on Disney+ for streaming.
The three brothers’ early years and experiences in Greece, as well as the success of their NBA basketball careers, are depicted in the much awaited biopic, which is directed by Akin Omotoso from a scenario by Arash Amel.
Elijah Shomanke, Yetide Badaki, and Dayo Okeniyi play supporting family parts, while newcomers Uche Agada, Ral Agada, and Jaden Osimuwa play the three main roles.
Douglas S. Jones and Giannis Antetokounmpo were also executive producers.
“The Antetokounmpos is a story that audiences have never seen before. Charles and Vera Antetokounmpo, who emigrated to Greece from Nigeria, “struggled to survive and provide for their five children, while living under the daily threat of deportation,” the movie synopsis states.
The couple, whose eldest son is still living with family in Nigeria, were keen to become Greek citizens but were thwarted by a system that prevented them from doing so, it says.
