On Monday morning, July 24, Linkin Park’s Facebook page featured an emotional open letter from the band’s surviving members to their late singer, Chester Bennington.
The band wrote, “Our hearts are broken,” breaking their silence four days after the frontman’s passing. Our family is still dealing with the shockwaves of denial and sadness as we process what has transpired.
On Thursday, July 20, 41-year-old Bennington was discovered dead. His death was declared a suicide by hanging by the Los Angeles County coroner.
In the letter, they tell Bennington, “You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized.”
They write, “Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled,” and subsequently add, “Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable,” un reference to the band’s future. Even if we are unsure of our future course, we are certain that you improved everyone of our lives. I appreciate that gift.
