LeBron James, a veteran of the Los Angeles Kings, has honored Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman by crossing his arms in the Wakanda Forever salute.
Prior to the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers game in the five-series playoff series, the basketball player led a pregame moment of silence.
The announcer during the tribute referred to the actor as a “close friend of the NBA” during a moment of silence.
Then, in a moment of introspection, the whole Lakers squad took a knee.
The “Wakanda Forever” salute, which is the hallmark gesture of Boseman’s superhero character T’Challa, was made by James, who was wearing a Black Lives Matter sweatshirt.
Finally, as if in a final nod to Boseman, the three-time NBA champion pointed up into the sky.
James also shared a photo of the two of them grinning together on social media as a way to honor Boseman.
“Rest in Paradise King” was the caption he wrote on his Instagram photo.
Yesterday, it was reported that Boseman had passed away following a four-year fight with colon cancer.
According to his family, he passed away at home with his loved ones by his side, including his wife Taylor Simone Ledward.
Boseman never discussed his sickness in public.
Numerous surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy were used to film movies like Black Panther, Da 5 Bloods, and Avengers: Endgame.
In Twitter’s history, the tweet that broke the news of Boseman’s passing has received the most likes.
The tweet had over 6.8 million likes and three million retweets and quotations as of Sunday morning.
