Bellingham’s Euro 2024 wonder goal celebrated with cake
Pret A Manger has just launched an edible artwork, recreating Jude Bellingham’s ‘bicycle’ goal at Euro 2024.
Not a bronze statue or an oil painting as usual. Jude Bellingham’s stunning and extremely important goal for England was made from… mince pie and gingerbread.
Bellingham-shaped cake is delicious from the eyes to the mouth
Pret A Manger, a chain of bakeries and coffee shops in the UK, has been extremely creative when turning Jude Bellingham’s masterpiece goal against Slovakia at Euro 2024 into a “dessert” that both the eyes and the mouth love.
The work is displayed at the store in Birmingham, very close to the Real Madrid midfielder’s hometown. It immediately attracted the attention of fans in the foggy country. Many fans came to admire, take pictures and share on social media for those far away.
It’s one of three tributes to the most memorable moments of 2024, alongside Sir David Attenborough and Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson in stores across the UK.
All are made by Andy Billett – a baker with a “golden hand” – using ingredients from the festive menu.
Pret A Manger’s culinary director Katherine Bagshawe said: “People always say food brings joy, so we thought what better way to celebrate 2024 than through… food.”
Also according to the survey, nearly half of Brits think 2024 will be a memorable year for British sport, with 22% calling it “the happiest year ever”. Perhaps that’s partly thanks to Bellingham’s goal. Now the masterpiece has become a culinary inspiration.
